Some Pictures...

Hi Folks...

I hope that your reading weeks are going well. South is VERY quiet right now.

Here are some fun pictures, since reading week is a fun time....

This is an older photo of me, and my friend Becs (That's me on the right). This was taken during a staff training, and it represents what I love about Residence Life. It's a big old random adventure. You never know what's going to happen, but it's always a lot of fun. (Also, the longer you work in residence life, the more random stuff you'll find winds up in your car).

This is THIS year's ARLMT (That's Assistant Residence Life Management Team) These are the fine folks who keep South running. (from L-R: Me, Zach - Mountain ARLM, Brian - Duty Staff Manager, Cassie & Neil - Prairie ARLMs, Amanda K - Maritime ARLM *and back next year!*, Amanda R - Mountain ARLM & Brie - Maritime ARLM)

The rest of these pictures I found online at various places, but they make me smile.

 When in doubt....

(This one is SO true. When I was little - and the little mermaid was a big deal - I drove my mom crazy because I would take a long time in the bathtub trying to do that thing were you fly out of the water and toss your hair back and it lands so perfectly... it didn't by the way. The walls just wound up soaked, and I looked like a drowned rat.)

A Lesson in "Southology"

So Folks... This is South.

As an RA, you'll be assigned to what we call a tower. (Valley 2, Tundra 3, Harbour 1 etc.)

Your managers will be assigned six towers to oversee. We call that a Section.

The sections are:
Seaway & Cove
Harbour & Schooner
Tundra & Homestead
Grasslands &Horizon
Glacier & Woodlands
Foothills & Valley

Each Tower (like Grasslands 3) has 6 Alcoves. The alcoves have about 4-5 rooms in them. Most of our rooms are singles, with a few doubles, triples and quads scattered throughout.

The WHOLE building is connected on what we call "Street Level" - which, for the record is NOT on the same level as the street. (Don't worry, I promise this will all be more clear when you arrive).

South also has two cafeterias, the HUB, the Housing Main Office, lots of lounge and programming space... it's a great place to work. Everything you need is right here.

Introducing...

Hello Again Everyone!

Happy Valentine's Day... I hope you all had a great weekend, and are getting your week's off to a good start.

I am happy to introduce to you your six wonderful Assistant Residence Life Managers for the 2011-2012 school year! They have not yet been assigned to specific teams (and fancy that, neither have you... yet :o)

They are....

Amanda Kalbfleisch is returning for a 2nd year as an ARLM
Patrick Sadaphal, a current CA in East
Sonja Smiljanic, a current CA on the LAMA team
Kyle Lethbridge, joining us from Laurier
Jessica Brain, joining us from Laurier
Valencia Gaspard, joining us from Western

The final member of the South Management Team, will be the Duty Staff manager. Duty staff work evenings on the weekends to help the RAs with rounds, dealing with students, and making connections. They are supervised by the Duty Staff Manager. That job will be posted this month!

Have a great day!

Welcome Team

Check back here often for updates, information, fun, contests, the whole bit. I'll update throughout the rest of the year leading into the summer.

I know that blogs are so 2008, thus making me 2000-and-late, but I'm not clever enough for website or an app.

Congratulations on your new roles, welcome home to our returners, and enjoy this time!
